Gal Acrylic

Concrete acid stain produces rich, deep and transparent unlike the tones of the paints or coatings that produce a solid, opaque effect. Depending color and application techniques used, the results can mimic everything from polished marble to tanned leather to natural stone or even wood colors. Chemical stains acid stain (or) react with the concrete content of calcium and produce color. If the surface painted or stamped concrete, acid stains can not penetrate the concrete and reacts with the lime. Therefore, a concrete surface that is painted or sealed can not be stained with acid.

Do you have to remove the paint or sealer on the concrete surface to acid stain?

Not necessarily!

With the arrival of more modified acrylic polymer cement, you can apply a thin layer (1/8inch thick) of cement over an existing painted or sealed concrete surface with minimal surface preparation. Here are the usual steps involved in implementing a micro-topping / concrete overlay and acid stain on a painted or sealed concrete surface.

a. Run a sanding screen sanding the entire surface 60grit. To ensure that the paint or sealer is bonded to the substrate, run the sander at least 1 hour per 1000ft2.
b. Rinse the floor with a mild detergent and allow to dry completely.
c. Apply a liberal coat of primer acrylic CP1000.
d. Allow this first cure overnight (at least 10 hours).
e. Apply a second coat of acrylic primer, CP1000. The second layer should be applied only to the surface moisture.
f. Once the first is clear and is dry to the touch, which is prepared to accept the concrete cover.
g. Apply polymer modified concrete overlay, Pentimento into 1/8inch thick. This is a concrete overlay retrowelable … which gives a finish very smooth concrete.
h. After 24 hours of cure or polymer concrete overlay, which is ready to take the spots of acid (chemical staining).
i. Spray the stain acid, Patinaetch to 250ft2/gal rate. Allow to react with the lime in the concrete for at least 2-3 hours. Follow the standard process cleaning out waste. Pay special attention to cleaning of waste and neutralizing the surface with ammonia.
j. Allow the surface during at least 24 hours before sealing with a layer of water-based epoxy, Re ¼ Forgive E32 and a layer of water-based polyurethane, Re ¼ Forgive U46.

Pentimento request does not solve the problem of emissions mositure. It is highly recommended MVER proof before applying Pentimento and Patinaetch acid staining. Concrete cover is faster and sometimes cheaper than the option of grinding off the paint or sealant. Even if they can be removed from the surface, there is no certainty that the desired results obtained after acid staining. Concrete cover is the way to go!
