The abode of Lord Jagannath, Jagannath Puri – Jagannath Dham and also called Purushottam – is one of four dhams of India (Rameshwaram, Dwarka, Badrinath and Jagannath Puri) and one of the holiest places for Hindus in the world.

Located in the eastern Indian state of Orissa, Jagannath Puri is famous for the beautiful temple Jagannath, the wonderful Rath Yatra, the highly popular and Puri Beach Festival, in addition to the holy festival of Nava Kaleb.

The temple of Lord Jagannath was built in the 12th century by Raja Ananta Varman Choda Ganga Dev The huge temple complex covers an area of 400,000 square feet and is surrounded by walls. With 120 temples and shrines, The temple complex is one of the wonders of the world, although not included in the list of the Seven Wonders of the World.

The temple complex is located in the Nilgiri Hills and on an elevated platform. Porches, shrines, offerings Hall and Ballroom Pillared constitute the vast complex of temples of Jagannath. The temple complex has four main gates doors east, south, west and north, called the Lion, the horse, tiger, and the Elephant Gate respectively.

The best example Orissan style of architecture, the temple has Jagannnath wooden statues of their principal deity Lord Jagannath (Lord Krishna), along with statues of Brother Lord's consort Balabhadra and Subhadra sanctorum inside.

The Jagganth Lord offers 56 varieties of offerings. The offers are made without using onions, peppers and garlic and some vegetables and prepare the world's largest kitchen that is right there in the Jagannath Temple Complex. The deals are offered to the goddess Devi after which Bimala Mahaprasad and is available to the general public and devotees.

Each year in the month of June, so famous Chariot festival held at Puri, that attracts visitors and pilgrims from distant places. The Rath Yatra interesting covers a distance of two kilometers from the main temple of Gundicha Ghar, which is considered the abode of Aunt of the Lord.

The statues of Lord Jagannath, Subhadra and Balabhadra is made in colorful and well decorated palanquin in a procession during the open Chariot Festival. It is said that the statue of the Lord who witness the Rath Yatra is released from the endless cycles of birth and death and attains salvation.

The Puri Beach Festival, held in November each year in Jagannath Puri is another attraction of Puri. The crafts, cuisine and culture of the state are attractive the party to attract lot of visitors from different parts of India and abroad.

Then there is the interesting religious festival, but Nava Kaleb held every 12 to 19 years in Jagannath Puri in which the statues of the major deities of Jagannath temple obtain new physical forms carved in wood by Chandan Neem master craftsmen, compete in secret and sacred environment.
