Electric Gravel

Winter is upon us, so if you live in snow country is the time to put away the hot rod for winter. This can sometimes be a time sad for the kids real vehicles, but the positive side of the situation is that you can eat his Christmas dinner happy knowing that your vehicle is isolated from snow, salt, sand and any evil that might hurt. Also, spring is just around the corner.

Here are some tips to make that their recovery time from the spring car a happy reunion instead of one full of four letter words.

1. What kept clean

This step goes without saying … we will continue forward and say it anyway. Any dirt left on the outside of the car will harden in the winter months, and will be a pain serious to take off in the spring. If you're in a rush and can not do this do not worry, it will be impossible to get the dirt out in the spring, just a nuisance. Remember that, like his mother told him a little time invested now will save you time later.

Be sure to clean the inside and, especially to eliminate the incentive of mice in search of some chow. Furthermore, it is always nice to go by car clean in the spring.

2. Store it in concrete in a clean workshop

A concrete garage clean storage location is ideal for two reasons: 1) Unlike a dirt or gravel surface, moisture can not move easily through the concrete in your car, and 2) dirty / cluttered garages attract vermin.

Moisture that gets into your car can cause all kinds of small electrical problems come spring (that cap, rotor, spark plug wires, etc), and every single screw in the car that had a little exposure will not have a thin metal oxide surface layer on it pleasant.

The bug issue should be pretty obvious. Less reason to be near his car in the winter, the better. From an empty garage with a concrete floor that contains only the car is your best bet to avoid them.

3. Put a cover on it

A car cover your car is kept covered by the inevitable dust that will settle on it. If you've been following the steps described so far (ie the car is clean and in a clean garage with concrete floor), a simple Cheapo breathable car cover is all you need. It's just a dust cover.

If you really can not do in the concrete for the winter, your next best bet is either to leave the car completely uncovered (so that moisture is not trapped under the car deck) or for a snack bag style cover. These are more expensive than regular covers, but are basically large car protection bags that lay on the ground, drive your car, and then the zipper inside. Nice and simple.

Alternatively, you can make your own using a large piece of plastic (to drive the car) and a regular car cover breathable. The cloth is your vapor barrier, so they put it in the car to the deck and keep it there with duct tape (which is basically going to build a cocoon when the canvas is the foundation and roof of the car is the top).

4. Fill the tank and change the oil

A full gas tank gas tank is a happy … and also means no space for air in the tank (which would lead to moisture in the tank). Just fill in the bomb and throw in a little fuel stabilizer in gas line antifreeze (such as HEET) for good measure.

An oil change is a good way of ensuring the oil pan are not filled with mud. Also make sure the engine components not covered in the old contaminated oil for several months without moving. Make sure you change the oil in storage bags in the spring although the humidity can accumulate in the crankcase. It's cheap insurance.

5. (Optional) Put it on jack stands and thrust cylinders

For the auto storage hardcore, what used to be a gold standard to put the car on jack stands and all the jets shot cylinders with little oil.

With modern tires is not so much a necessity as the biggest reason to get the car of the earth was flat tires to avoid staining. If you are running diagonally tires of his car, still a good idea to put the car on foot. For those of you running modern radial tires that have never had air leakage problems, feel free to skip this step.

Squirting the cylinders with oil is sometimes done for extra lubrication in the cylinder chamber. For those of you running original engine specifications, this step can not really do damage. Simply pull each spark plug out, shot Squirt some oil in (using an oil can with a hose) and put the plug back in, that's all.

That's all there! It is time to put the car away and start dreaming of the fun next year will bring …. and if you follow these steps, the muscle car will start the spring out right!
